選考方法
Selection Process
【Master’s Program】
Students applying through special recommendation from their current or former high school or university are exempt from document screening. These students will give a presentation of their work and an interview. In principle, both the presentation and interview will be conducted in Japanese.
Stage 1: Document screening
Applicants are screened based on the following documents, to be submitted during the application period: Research plan (all applicants), and EITHER a portfolio OR essay. In principle, all documents are to be submitted in Japanese. Successful applicants will be notified of their progression to Stage 2.
Stage 2: Written exam; presentation of work and interview
In principle, the exam, presentation and interview will be conducted in Japanese.
【Doctoral Program】
Stage 1: Document screening

Application Eligibility
【Master’s Program】
(1) Individuals of exceptional academic and personal quality who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree from a Japanese institution by March 2020; have been recommended by the president or dean of their university; and will commit to enrollment in the Graduate School of Transdisciplinary Arts if accepted.
(2) Individuals of exceptional academic and personal quality who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, qualifications equivalent to an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree from a foreign institution by March 2020; have been recommended by the head of the institution awarding said degree; and will commit to enrollment in the Graduate School of Transdisciplinary Arts if accepted.
(1) Individuals who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree from a Japanese institution by March 2020.
(2) Individuals who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, qualifications equivalent to an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree from a foreign institution by March 2020.
(3) Individuals who have completed, or are scheduled to complete, 16 years of regular curricular studies outside Japan by March 2020.
(4) Individuals residing in Japan who have completed, or are scheduled to complete, 16 years of regular curricular studies conducted by a foreign educational institution through distance-learning courses by March 2020.
(5) Individuals residing in Japan who have completed, or are scheduled to complete, a course of study designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), which is conducted by a foreign educational institution under said foreign country’s educational system, by March 2020.
(6) Individuals who have completed, or are scheduled to complete, a course of study designated by MEXT from a special training or vocational school, by a date designated by MEXT, or by March 2020 (limited to courses in which the duration of study exceeds 4 years, and which meet any additional criteria specified by MEXT).
(7) Other individuals specially designated by the MEXT.
(8) Individuals who have previously been enrolled in the graduate school of a separate institution, either in Japan or abroad, and have been determined to have sufficient academic ability for study in Japan at the graduate level.
(9) Individuals who have been determined, through separate screening by the Graduate School of Transdisciplinary Arts, to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than a Japanese 4-year university graduate, and who will be at least 22 years old by March 31, 2020.
- (1) Individuals who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, a Master’s or professional degree from a Japanese institution by March 31, 2020.
(2) Individuals who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, a degree otherwise equivalent to a Master’s or professional degree from a foreign institution by March 31, 2020.
(3) Individuals residing in Japan who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, the equivalent of a Master’s or professional degree from a foreign educational institution through distance-learning courses by March 31, 2020.
(4) Individuals residing in Japan who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, the equivalent of a Master’s or professional degree from the Foreign Branch Campus of a foreign institution, as designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), by March 31, 2020.
(5) Individuals who have attained, or are scheduled to attain, the equivalent of a Master’s degree from the United Nations University by March 31, 2020.
(6) Individuals who have attained an undergraduate degree from a postsecondary educational institution either in Japan or abroad, have spent 2 years or more engaged in research at a university, research institute, etc., and have been determined to possess academic ability equivalent to a graduate of a Japanese Master’s degree program.
(7) Individuals who have been approved through separate screening by the Graduate School of Transdisciplinary Arts, and who will be at least 24 years old by March 31, 2020.
※Individuals who do not qualify under eligibility requirements (1) through (6) and wish to apply through separate screening must contact the Student Affairs Division as soon as possible for further instructions. All required documents must be received by the Student Affairs division no later than September 9 (Mon.) 2019 in order to be considered.
